OWC Aura Pro X aftermarket SSD on Macbook
I got an OWC Aura Pro X in order to upgrade my Macbook drive from it’s somewhat measly 256GB drive to 1TB as I needed to build a lot of Docker images.
On the initial install, the system was running for 12 hours trying to install OSX and was so sluggish I could barely move the mouse pointer accross the screen.
I rebooted the machine, suddenly the system started behaving normally. I mean, the whole process started from the beginning again but this time it completed in about 20 minutes.
“Hmmm”, I thought, “that doesn’t bode well”.
Mostly the OWC device functions normally, but sometimes it just seems to get overwhelmed, particularly if I don’t reboot the system every day or two.
The crash reports after the system restarts always look like this (note the reference to ‘IONVMeController.cpp’ :

I wonder if anyone else has experienced similar issues? I’m guessing that Apple don’t exactly encourage aftermarket products on the Mackbook (accessories, cables and upgrades being one of their major revenue streams).
